It’s been nearly a year, I was going to post up on the exact date I last posted but I’m going to be carving the shit out of British Columbia on a snowboard (see below) so I might as well start posting now. I’m naturally very excited about it but not nearly as excited as receiving my copy of Street Fighter IV, but that I think that’s just cos it’s out tomorrow.

Here’s a video I came across on Cyberspace of an openly homosexual gamer (xxxGayBoyxxx) on Xbox Live getting abuse from various different players. Although he admits that not all the comments were not necessarily hateful it is pretty interesting to hear how many meatheads there are in the gaming world. What’s even more interesting is that most of them have very camp voices.

Ater news that Google will be aggressively rolling out YouTube across its adsense partnerships they ahve now added YouTube functionality to Google Earth.  You will now be able to watch videos of the place you are going to visit.

It will now not only be the most awesome Atlas ever made but will now ad ‘encyclopedia’ to its list of functionalities. Micheal Jones, chief bod at Google Earth says: “Our vision here is all about the sense of place. Photos show the local view, but videos add the sense of life. The combination of Earth’s ‘where’ with YouTube’s ‘what’ makes the combined experience that much more complete and compelling.”

Sony has just released behind the scenes footage of the making of the new ‘Play-Doh’ Sony  Bravia ad. The footage can be seen on the European Sony Bravia site here. It’s bloody interesting.

As you may have heard already the production team behind it are being accused of ripping off ideas from the L.A. based married duo Kozyndan who were commisioned to come up with concepts for Sony over two years ago. Make your own mind up:

Well that’s pretty conclusive but Sony are sticking to their guns:

‘There is suggestion that there is a similarity between an illustration by Kozyndan and the new Sony BRAVIA ‘Play-Doh’ advert. Sony would like to stress that the advert conception, creative and final animation is not based on any pre-existing artwork.

Sony Europe, its agency Fallon, production company Gorgeous, and animation company Passion Pictures, assert that the wave, whale and bunnies were arrived at without reference to these artists. In the original script, the rabbits were one of many creatures to cavort around a cityscape. In fact, the location was only finalised shortly before the shoot. The final creative, led by Juan Cabral at Fallon and director Frank Budgen at Gorgeous, was chosen to champion the brand and best reflect ‘colour.like.no.other’. Sony enjoys working with experienced and talented creatives and all involvement in a campaign is always credited.’

Right.

Anyway, here’s another new Bravia ad which is equally enormous and impressive in terms of scale. Wish we could see more of the last shot though but it is nonetheless brilliant:

Arcade Fire have just done what could only be described as an interactive music video for their new single ‘Neon Bible’. It’s bloody clever. Scenes are played out within certain segments of a song and you manipulate the elements (Win Butler’s face and hands) within each scene.

Korea Telecom today announced that they will be connecting their IPTV service through the PS3. Sounds pretty kick-ass. They could possibly do something with BT over here…

Microsoft did demo the Xbox 360’s ability to host IPTV on software developed for the machine, and already has close ties with BT with their Windows Media system – so no great shakes in the battle of the games consoles.

Jerry O’Flaherty, the genius behind the art direction on Gears of War and Unreal Tournament 3 will be taking the directors chair for the upcoming Thundercats movie. Whether the whol movei will be done in CGI remains unclear but we can only assume that this is the case as O’Flaherty said to Variety: “It feels like a natural thing for me to step into,” he said. “Games have come so far now. The last four years of my life have been about bringing the energy of filmmaking into the videogame experience.”

So there you have it. I thought Transformers was awesome and that was Micheal Bay (eeewww).

And it looks pretty awesome. Makes little to no sense but makes me want to buy a PS3, which by the way is going to come down in price to £300 by this Christmas. Better wait til then so.
